Newly Static

Newly Static

I have been wanting to get away from wordpress for a long time - I don’t need it and the maintenance hassle is too large. A year or so ago, I used hugo to port the existing pages to a statically served version. It worked OK, but I was not motivated to write much because deploying updates was something I had not got around to automating.

Last weekend, I engaged Codex in the task of completely porting my wife’s business’s site from Wordpress to static, but using publii as I did not want to inflict markdown editing on her. That went extremely well, so porting my previous hugo-ised site into a more modern and cleaner form was dead straightforward. And I have a deploy script too. This is all stuff I could have learned, but have no reason (or motivation) to. I mean who wants to learn the ins and outs of wordpress exports just to get away from wordpress!? And I am no web designer… and I’m sure a real webdesigner shudders at my ‘make it more modern’ prompt’s results. But it gets the job done, the result is in no way horrific, and I can spend my time hacking on more interesting things…
